Game description

U-Sharp (fka ENC#YPTED) is the first continuous game for learning Unity-specific programming. It is about an out-of-control artificial intelligence that encrypts the personal data of the players. In order to unlock it, you have to solve puzzling programming tasks that affect the game world. The game is ideal for people who are looking for an easy and motivating introduction to the world of Unity programming or who want to expand their basic knowledge.

Learning Objectives

Users will learn Unity-specific methods as they progress through the game. The levels each deal with specific topics, such as input, physics, and animation, in combination with basic C# use cases, such as the use of vectors, loops, and logic. The learning goal is to see connections and learn how to seek external help for various problems. The intention of the application is not for users* to have a comprehensive knowledge of the Unity Engine after playing the educational game. With its graphical user interface, it consists of many more facets than coding. However, the users should have little problem acquiring the remaining knowledge about the engine themselves in other ways.

Features

Features include an implemented runtime compiler that allows the code written by the player to be executed within the runtime of the application and thus directly influence the game world, especially the game characters. The code is highlighted with syntax highlighting in different colors and checked against allowed expressions before execution. Errors during execution are indicated in an understandable console output. If at a certain point the player cannot find the solution without help, it is possible to use the "Instant Help Forum" within the application to get immediate help with questions. When the player completes a level, he has the possibility to view the decrypted files and play a new level that appears in the Windows-like start menu
